Cycles and Patterns

Cycles of Communication and Patterns of Behavior

Key To Understanding Cycles of Communication

Ask what is the root of your belief about yourself (such as insecurity, fear of…)?

Beliefs> Create Rules> Regulate Your Behavior.

Positive Beliefs = Realistic, flexible, healthy rules to live by.

Negative Beliefs = Rules that are irrational and fear driven.

Negative Cycle of Communication

Irrational Belief System (i.e. fears, insecurities)

Automatic Response = Reaction (learned trait but you still choose i.e. anger, control)

Frequently Reinforced Behavior (accepted behavior not dealt with)

Healthy Cycle of Communication

Observe and listen to yourself.

Step back and view emotions as your key to understanding.

Separate the event from your response to it.

Ask what’s the deeper truth that I believe about myself? Your relationship?

Use that truth as your filter.

Choose to respond (not react) with understanding!
